Rare books will be digitized with ElarScan book scanner in Republic of Mordovia
ELAR Corp. supplied the Elarscan A2-600 planetary scanner to the National Library of Republic of Mordovia (RF), named after Alexander Pushkin. The equipment will be used for high-quality digitization of rare books, periodicals, local lore and other publications.
In the collections of the Department of rare books of the National library of the Republic of Mordovia, valuable and unique records such as domestic and foreign publications are stored. These records contain editions of civil press of the XVIII – XIX centuries, first and lifetime editions of classical writers and public figures. The careful conversion into electronic form of rare books will provide readers digital copies instead of originals which has a positive impact on their preservation. Since rare books are valuable not only for content but also, as a rule, have artistic, historical or cultural significance, it is important that digitizing be very precise to convey the features of printing, illustrations, notes on pages, etc. "For scanning books and other documents in high quality Elarscan A2-600 has an integrated professional optical system, - says ELARs leading expert for libraries and universities Mr. Gregory EVSTIGNEEV. – It scans with a resolution of 600 dpi on the A2 format and provides 800 dpi in Macro-mode. The Elarscan is indispensable when the task is to digitize rare and valuable books or documents that are degrading."
